Data Deletion
1. Your right
Article 17 GDPR gives you a right to erasure (sometimes called the “right to be forgotten”). You can ask GeniusClip at any time to delete your personal data, without having to give a reason.
This page describes the practical procedure, the time frames, what is actually deleted, what is kept for legal reasons, and the useful contacts.
2. Account deletion procedure
Two possible channels:
2.1 By email
Send a request to privacy@geniusclip.eu from your account's email address. State your intention clearly (for example: “I request the permanent deletion of my account and all associated data”).
2.2 By post
If you prefer post, first contact contact@geniusclip.eu to get the current address. Postal requests are handled within the same time frames as email requests.
3. Time frames
- Receipt of the request
- An email confirms receipt of the request within 24 business hours.
- Effective deletion
- No later than 30 days after the request, in accordance with Art. 12(3) GDPR. The deletion is irreversible.
- Final confirmation
- A deletion confirmation email is sent to the address previously associated with the account.
4. What is deleted
Deletion permanently erases the following:
- your account information: email, settings, preferences;
- your workspace and its settings;
- your Source Videos, stored on our servers;
- your generated Clips, including their copy at our subprocessor Cloudflare, along with transcripts, scores and editorial metadata;
- your job history and credit usage;
- cookies and active sessions;
- the opt-in dataset data, if you had consented to model data collection (see Consent);
- application logs containing user identifiers (aggregated, anonymized logs may remain).
5. What is kept (legal obligation)
Some data must be kept by GeniusClip despite your deletion request, under legal obligations:
- Invoices and accounting records
- 10 years from the end of the financial year (French Commercial Code Art. L123-22).
- Payment supporting documents
- 10 years (same).
- Stripe Customer IDs linked to invoices
- 10 years (pseudonymized: email, name and other personal data removed).
- Aggregated security logs
- 12 months maximum (CNIL recommendation).
These retentions are strictly limited to what the legal obligation requires and are not used for any other purpose.
6. Partial deletion
You do not have to delete your whole account to erase some data:
- Delete a project, meaning the Source Video and all the Clips made from it: from the library, with the “Supprimer le projet” (delete project) button. Immediate and irreversible.
- Withdraw consent to model data collection: from Paramètres → Confidentialité (Settings → Privacy), which immediately erases the data collected. See Consent.
7. Request from a third party
If an identifiable person in one of your Source Videos asks for their image or voice to be removed:
- That person can write directly to
privacy@geniusclip.eu. - GeniusClip forwards the request to you within 5 business days.
- You have 7 days to handle the request (deleting the Source Video concerned, re-cutting the Clip, or a reasoned reply).
- If you do not respond within that time, GeniusClip may suspend access to the disputed content until the matter is resolved.
This procedure does not prejudge the merits: any dispute between you and the requesting person may fall under separate legal proceedings.
8. Effects on your subscription and credits
- The current paid subscription is cancelled immediately once the deletion is confirmed. No future payment will be taken.
- The prorated part of the paid period is not refunded, except in exceptional cases assessed by GeniusClip (a serious service outage, for example).
- Remaining credits are lost.
- Credit packs bought separately are not refunded either.
9. Creating a new account
Nothing prevents you from later creating a new account with the same email address. This new account will be completely blank: no data from the previous account can be recovered, including job history, settings and preferences.
10. Remedies
If you believe your deletion request was not handled correctly, you can:
- write to us at
privacy@geniusclip.eufor a new review; - lodge a complaint with the CNIL (
cnil.fr); - take the matter to the competent court.
